The Mawlawi Khanah of Aleppo was one of the most important lodges of the Mevlevi Sufi order outside Anatolia, the order of the whirling dervishes founded by the followers of Jalal al-Din Rumi. It stands in the west of the old city near Bab al-Faraj and dates mainly from the Ottoman period. The complex includes a mosque, a domed hall for the sema ceremony and the tombs of its shaykhs, and it is still used as a mosque today.
