The Khusrawiyya Mosque was the first Ottoman monument in Aleppo. It was built for Khusraw Pasha, a vizier of Sultan Sulayman, and completed in 1546-47 as one of the earliest works of the court architect Sinan. The complex comprised a mosque, a madrasa, a kitchen and shops, and its madrasa was long one of the city's main schools of Islamic learning. It stands south-west of the Aleppo Citadel, opposite the citadel's main entrance, with a domed prayer hall and a courtyard in front. The complex has been under restoration in recent years. The Sultaniyya Madrasa and Khan al-Shuna are close by.
