Dhu al-Kala' al-Himyari was a chief of the Himyar tribe of Yemen who accepted Islam in the lifetime of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ after a letter was sent to him. He came north with the Muslim armies, took part in the conquest of Syria and settled in Hims, where many of the Yemeni tribes made their home. He fell at the Battle of Siffin in 37 AH. The small mosque that bears his name stands in the old city of Homs. A plaque over its entrance dates it to 1010 AH (1601), and the shrine attributed to him lies beside its basalt-paved courtyard.
