Muhammad ibn Awf al-Ta'i al-Himsi was one of the leading hadith scholars of Hims in the third Islamic century. He was known as a careful memoriser and teacher, and great collectors of hadith such as Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i narrated from him. He passed away in Hims around 272 AH. His grave lies in a small room beside a prayer hall near the old clock tower in the centre of Homs. The building was renewed in 1994.
