About Jabal Ayr (Southern Boundary of the Haram of Madinah)

Jabal Ayr is the long dark mountain on the southern side of Madinah. Nabi Muhammad ﷺ declared Madinah a sacred sanctuary and named Ayr as one end of its boundary, with the hill of Thawr behind Uhud as the other. The land between them is the Haram of Madinah, where the city's special sanctity is observed. A road now leads up the mountain to a viewing area with wide views over the city and Masjid al-Nabawi. Entry is ticketed, and the track is steep and rough, so a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended.
