About Palace of Urwa ibn al-Zubayr

Urwa ibn al-Zubayr was the son of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam and Asma' bint Abi Bakr, and one of the seven great jurists of Madinah in the generation after the Companions. He built a palace and a well in Wadi al-Aqiq, and the water of his well was famous across Madinah for its sweetness. The ruins of the palace and the old well survive on the edge of the valley in the west of Madinah, and the site has been prepared for visitors in recent years. It gives a picture of life in Madinah in the first century after the Hijrah.
