About Battle Site of Hamra' al-Asad

The day after the Battle of Uhud, Nabi Muhammad ﷺ called on the Companions who had fought, wounded as many of them were, to march out again in pursuit of the Quraysh, so that the enemy would not think the Muslims had been broken. They reached Hamra' al-Asad, about thirteen kilometres south-west of Madinah, and camped there for three days, lighting many fires at night. Abu Sufyan, who had been thinking of turning back to attack Madinah, heard of the Muslim army and decided instead to head home to Makkah. The expedition restored the confidence of the believers after the losses of Uhud. The area lies south-west of the city on the old road towards Makkah.
