Wadi Rum is the great desert valley of red sand and sandstone and granite mountains in the far south of Jordan, inscribed by UNESCO for its landscape and its rock art and inscriptions. Bedouin families of the area still live in and around it. Every visit starts at the visitor centre, from where jeep tours, camel rides and walks lead to its canyons, rock bridges and inscriptions. Many visitors stay overnight in the desert camps.
