Jabal Rum is the great massif that rises over Rum village on the west side of the valley, and at about 1,730 metres it is the second highest mountain in Jordan. It gives Wadi Rum its name. Its cliffs draw climbers from around the world, and walking routes lead up its lower slopes to springs such as Lawrence's Spring. The village, with its rest house and the Nabataean temple, lies at its foot.
