This is the remains of the congregational mosque built by the Umayyad governors on Jabal al-Qal'a, the Amman Citadel, in the early eighth century. It faced the great gateway of the governor's palace and served the Umayyad town on the hill. Its foundations and the outline of the prayer hall can be traced on the Citadel, a short walk from the domed audience hall of the Umayyad Palace and the Jordan Archaeological Museum.
