The Jordan Archaeological Museum, opened in 1951, was the country's first museum. It stands on the Amman Citadel and displays finds from across Jordan, from prehistory through the Roman and Byzantine periods to the Umayyad and later Islamic eras. The museum is a short walk from the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace on the same hill, and can be seen on the same visit as the Citadel.
