Tell Hisban, north of Madaba, was lived in from the Iron Age to the Ottoman period. In the Mamluk era it served for a time as the seat of the governor of the Balqa, and the remains of his residence, with its bathhouse, stand on the summit along with older Roman and Byzantine buildings and an ancient reservoir. Paths and signs lead around the excavated buildings, and the top of the tell looks west towards the Jordan Valley.
