Qal'at al-Hasa is an Ottoman fort built in the 18th century as a station on the Syrian Hajj road, the pilgrim route from Damascus to Makkah. Like the other forts on the road, it guarded a water supply for the caravans, and a large reservoir stands beside it. The fort is a square stone building around a central courtyard, near the town of al-Hasa on the Desert Highway.
