The King Abdullah I Mosque was built between 1982 and 1989 by King Hussein in memory of his grandfather. Its great blue mosaic dome is one of the landmarks of Amman. The prayer hall beneath the dome is open to visitors outside prayer times, and a small museum of Islamic heritage is attached to the mosque. It stands in the al-Abdali district near the parliament.
