This mosque and shrine at Khirbet Ayyub, near Salt, is honoured as the grave of Nabi Ayyub, the prophet remembered for his patience in affliction. Shrines of Nabi Ayyub are also honoured at al-Shaykh Sa'd in the Hawran of Syria and in other lands. The site was restored by the Royal Committee, with a mosque beside the domed grave chamber, and it stands among the hills west of Salt overlooking the valleys that run down towards the Jordan.
