This is the Amman station of the Hejaz Railway, the line built by the Ottomans in the early twentieth century to carry pilgrims from Damascus to Madinah. The station buildings stand in the Mahatta district. Old steam locomotives and carriages are displayed in the yard, and heritage train rides run on some occasions. A museum of the railway has been under development on the site.
