The Terbana Mosque was built in 1684 by al-Hajj Ibrahim Terbana, a Maghribi merchant who traded in this quarter. It is a 'hanging' mosque in the Ottoman manner of the Delta, with its prayer hall raised on an upper floor above shops whose rents were endowed to keep it running. Its facade is decorated with red and black brickwork in geometric patterns, and its painted wooden ceiling rests on rows of ancient columns reused from earlier buildings, with a candle-shaped minaret above the entrance. It stands in Souq al-Tork in Mansheya, and restoration work after 2011 uncovered a large cistern beneath it.
