Abd al-Rahman ibn Hurmuz al-A'raj was one of the Tabi'in of Madinah, a Qur'an reader and narrator of hadith from Abu Hurayra and other Companions, whose reports appear throughout the major collections. He spent his last years in Alexandria, guarding its coast, and passed away there in 117 AH (735). His mosque stands in the Ras el-Tin quarter of Bahari and is a registered monument. It is a modest building with a minaret, set among the streets that lead to the Ras el-Tin Palace.
