Locals call this the Roman Bridge, but it was built by the Ottomans in the sixteenth century over the river Bosna at Ilidža, on the western edge of Sarajevo. Its builders reused cut stones from the ruins of the nearby Roman spa town of Aquae Sulphurae, and this reuse of Roman stone gave the bridge its popular name. It has gently curving arches of carefully cut stone and is now a protected national monument. It makes a quiet stop on a visit to Ilidža and Vrelo Bosne, the spring of the river Bosna, which lies a short distance away.
