About Igman Olympic Mountain

Igman is a broad forested plateau rising to about 1,500 metres just south-west of Sarajevo. It hosted ski-jumping and cross-country events at the 1984 Winter Olympics, and the old ski jumps at Malo Polje still stand. During the siege of 1992-95 a rough road over Igman, linked to the tunnel under the airport, was the only route into the city, and many people lost their lives on it under shellfire. Today Igman is a place for walking, cycling and skiing, with wartime memorials along the way and wide views over the Sarajevo valley.
