Harim Citadel rises on a steep mound above the town of Harim, close to the Turkish border west of Aleppo. The fortress was fought over for decades between the Crusaders of Antioch and the Muslim rulers of Aleppo, and in 1164 Nur al-Din Zangi won a great victory nearby, capturing several Crusader leaders. The castle was later rebuilt by the Ayyubids, and its walls and gateway still overlook the town and the surrounding plain.
