Aleppo Railway Station, known as the Baghdad Station, opened in 1912 as part of the Berlin to Baghdad railway that the Ottoman state built with German help. It is one of the oldest railway stations in Syria, and the first train from it ran to Jarabulus on the Euphrates. Its stone building, a mix of European and local styles, is a landmark of late Ottoman Aleppo and gives its name to the surrounding district.
