These ruins in Wadi al-Aqiq are known as the palace of the Umayyad caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik, who ruled from 105 to 125 AH. Some writers identify them instead with the estate of Maslamah ibn Abdullah, a grandson of Urwah ibn al-Zubayr. Either way they belong to the age when the notables of Madinah built country estates along the valley. The remains stand in the southern part of the al-Aqiq valley, about a kilometre from the Palace of Urwah ibn al-Zubayr.
