Masjid al-Manaratayn, the Mosque of the Two Minarets, stands on the old road south from Madinah towards Makkah. It was originally known as Masjid Bani Dinar, after the clan of the Ansar who lived here, and it is reported that Nabi Muhammad ﷺ prayed at this place. Its later name comes from two small hills that once rose on either side of it. The first mosque was a simple building of basalt stone, and it was restored and enlarged in 2003. It is in daily use, with two minarets, and stands close to the House of Fatimah bint al-Husayn in al-Usayfirin.
