Al-Usbah, south-west of Quba, is where the first emigrants from Makkah settled before Nabi Muhammad ﷺ arrived on the Hijrah. Here Salim, the freedman of Abu Hudhayfah, led them in prayer, as he knew the most Qur'an among them, and the site has long been honoured as one of the first places of congregational prayer in Madinah. The mosque is also known as Masjid al-Nur and Masjid al-Tawbah. The restored site sits in a date farm and includes the mosque and the nearby Well of al-Hujaym, with paths and shaded seating for visitors. It lies a short drive from Masjid Quba.
