The Hassan Bek Masjid was built between 1916 and 1923 on the orders of Hassan Bey al-Basri al-Jabi, the Ottoman governor of Jaffa, on the northern edge of the town's Manshiyya quarter. It stands out in Ottoman style among the modern towers of the seafront. The mosque is built of white limestone, and its walls are set with coloured glazed windows between narrow piers. After years of neglect the Muslim community of Jaffa restored it, and the minaret was rebuilt at twice its original height. Prayers are held there regularly, and the mosque stands on the coastal road between Jaffa and Tel Aviv, close to the beach.
