The Great Omari Masjid is the main mosque of the old town of Lod, known in Arabic as al-Lydd. It was built by Sultan Baybars in 1268 after the Mamluks took the town. The mosque stands in the old centre of Lod near the Church of Saint George, with its minaret over the courtyard, and it is still used for prayer. Jisr Jindas, the stone bridge that Baybars also built, is a short distance north of the town.
