The Great Mosque of Nahr Khuz, with its two tall minarets, is one of the best-known mosques of the Abu al-Khasib district. It was rebuilt in the late 20th century on the site of a mosque around two centuries old, and has been renovated since. It stands on the main road through Nahr Khuz, a village famous across Iraq for its halawa of date syrup and tahini, sold in the shops opposite. The shrine honoured as the grave of Dhamir, son of Halima al-Sa'diyya, is about 650 m away.
