About Anfushi Tombs

The Anfushi tombs are a group of rock-cut tombs of the Ptolemaic and early Roman periods, from the third to the first centuries BC. They were found in 1901 and were made for wealthy families of the ancient city. Steps lead down into the burial chambers, where painted walls imitate marble and alabaster panelling, and one tomb has Egyptian-style scenes. The tombs are near the Ras el-Tin Palace in Bahari, not far from Qaitbay Citadel.
