This mosque in al-Hawi, on the eastern edge of Tarim, belongs to Imam Abdullah ibn Alawi al-Haddad (1044–1132 AH), the great Ba-Alawi scholar whose Ratib al-Haddad and books of counsel such as al-Nasa'ih al-Diniyya are read across the Muslim world. He settled in al-Hawi, where he taught and received visitors, and his house adjoins the mosque. The mosque was rebuilt in recent decades by one of his descendants as a large white building with arcades, marble floors and calligraphy, and it is a centre for lessons and gatherings, especially during the visitation season. Imam al-Haddad is buried in Zanbal Cemetery in Tarim.
