Yemen is a land honoured in the Qur'an and in the words of the blessed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was home to the people of Saba, whose queen came to Prophet Sulayman (Solomon), and to Abrahah, who built a great church in Sanaa to draw pilgrims away from the Kaʿbah before marching on Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, the year the Prophet ﷺ was born. Its people embraced Islam during his lifetime, and of them he ﷺ said, "Belief is Yemenite and Wisdom is Yemenite". The Prophet ﷺ sent Sayyiduna Muʿadh ibn Jabal and Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنهما to Yemen to teach and to judge, and the land later gave the ummah the great tabiʿi Uways al-Qarani and generations of scholars. The Great Mosque of Sanaa is counted among the oldest masajid in Islam, and the valley of Hadramawt, with its town of Tarim, has been a centre of learning and devotion for centuries. Despite the hardships of recent years, Yemen remains a land of deep faith, gentle hearts and enduring barakah.
