Jabal Nabi Shu'ayb, west of Sana'a in Bani Matar, is the highest mountain in Yemen and in the whole Arabian Peninsula, rising to about 3,660 metres. A small shrine on the summit is honoured by local tradition in the name of Nabi Shu'ayb. The slopes are covered with terraced fields and stone villages, and the summit is often cold, with snow in some winters.
