Al-Musawa Mosque in al-Hawtah, the old capital of Lahj, is associated with the scholar Ahmad Hasan al-Musawa and is one of the historic mosques of the town. It stands in the old town, about 180 metres from the Great Mosque of al-Hawtah and close to the al-Dawla Mosque. Al-Hawtah was the seat of the sultans of Lahj, and the old town keeps several of their mosques and buildings.
