Shaykh Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi (1641 to 1731) was one of the most prolific scholars of Ottoman Damascus. A Hanafi jurist and Sufi, he wrote hundreds of works on law, Sufism, the interpretation of dreams and poetry, defended the teachings of Ibn Arabi, and left lively accounts of his journeys to Jerusalem, Egypt and the Hijaz. He lived and taught for many years in the Salihiyyah quarter, and he was buried in his house there, which grew into the mosque that bears his name. His tomb is a much-visited place of remembrance on the slopes of Mount Qasiyun.
