Qadi Muhyi al-Din Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Zaki was the chief judge of Damascus under Salah al-Din. When Jerusalem was retaken in 583 AH (1187), it was he who gave the first Friday sermon in the al-Aqsa Mosque after nearly ninety years of Crusader rule, a sermon that became famous throughout the Muslim world. He passed away in 598 AH and was buried in the family burial ground of the Banu al-Zaki on the slopes of Mount Qasiyun in Salihiyyah. It was in this same family tomb that the great Sufi Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi was later buried.
