Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Kharbutli was a Damascene jurist, Qur'an reciter and Sufi who lived from about 1859 to 1937. He studied with Shaykh Badr al-Din al-Hasani and others, wrote works on the rules of Qur'anic recitation, Arabic grammar and Islamic law, and lived a quiet life devoted to recitation and remembrance. His funeral prayer was held at the Mosque of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi, and his grave lies in the burial ground around that mosque in the Salihiyyah quarter.
