The Marrubial wall is a stretch of about 400 metres of the wall that enclosed the Axerquía, the eastern half of medieval Córdoba, where the city had grown beyond the old medina. It dates from the Almoravid period, in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and runs along the Ronda del Marrubial behind the parish church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia. It is one of the longest stretches of Córdoba's walls still standing, and the Garden of the Poets is laid out along its inner side, which makes this a quiet walk away from the busier streets of the centre.
