The Martos Mill stands on the Guadalquivir east of the old city, opposite the site of the Martos Gate in the city wall, which took its name from the road to Martos in Jaén. It is recorded as a mill from 1237, and between 1550 and 1555 the old mill was rebuilt as the building seen today, with its water channels running beneath the floor. It later also worked as a fulling mill for cloth. After restoration by the architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg, it opened in 2006 as the Hydraulic Museum, which tells the story of water in Córdoba and of the traditional uses of plants for flour, dyes, tanning and fibres. It is on the Ronda de los Mártires, and the riverbank nearby is a good place to see herons and egrets.
