This bronze bust in the Mansour district honours the Abbasid caliph Abu Ja'far al-Mansur, who founded Baghdad in 145 AH (762) as the Round City of Madinat al-Salam on the west bank of the Tigris. The district takes its name from him. The statue is the work of the Iraqi sculptor Khalid al-Rahhal and was unveiled in 1977. It was restored by the city in 2008 and stands in a small tree-lined square.
