Abu al-Fayd Thawban ibn Ibrahim, known as Dhul-Nun al-Misri, was one of the early masters of the Sufi path, from Akhmim in Upper Egypt. He was brought to Baghdad under the caliph al-Mutawakkil, questioned and later released, and he passed away in 245 AH (859). His shrine stands in the old Karkh cemetery of Baghdad, near the graves of al-Junayd and Sari al-Saqati, and is visited by Baghdadis throughout the year.
