This tomb in the Shaykh Ma'ruf cemetery, known to Baghdadis as the tomb of Sitt Zubayda, was built by Zumurrud Khatun, the mother of the caliph al-Nasir li-Din Allah, who was buried in it in 599 AH (1202). Its tall conical dome of stepped brick muqarnas, rising over an octagonal base, is one of the finest surviving examples of late Abbasid architecture. It stands close to the grave of Ma'ruf al-Karkhi.
