The old clock tower stands in the square named after it on Shukri al-Quwatli Street in the centre of Homs, at the edge of the old market district. It was put up in the early twentieth century and soon became one of the landmarks of the city. The square around it is a meeting point and the starting place for a walk into the old souqs, with the Great al-Nuri Mosque and Homs Citadel close by.
