About Maqam of Nabi Ibrahim (Al-Salihin Mosque)

Masjid al-Salihin, the Mosque of the Righteous, is one of the oldest mosques of Aleppo and stands south of the old city in the quarter known as al-Maqamat. Local tradition holds that Nabi Ibrahim stopped at this spot on his journeys, and a rock inside the mosque is shown as the one he rested against. The mosque was also known for a stone bearing a footprint attributed to Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, and people long came here to pray and seek blessing. Beside the mosque lies the cemetery of al-Salihin, one of the oldest Muslim burial grounds in the city, where burials stopped long ago. The old city gate of Bab al-Maqam, the Gate of the Shrine, takes its name from this place, as it opened onto the road leading here.
