Shaykh Ali ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Hariri was a Sufi master of the seventh Islamic century from the village of Busr al-Harir in the Hawran. He gathered many followers in Damascus and gave his name to the Haririyyah path, then returned to his village, where he passed away in 645 AH. His domed shrine stands in Busr al-Harir on the edge of the volcanic Laja region, and the al-Hariri families of the Hawran trace their descent to him.
