About Tabuk Castle

Tabuk Castle was built in 1559 by the Ottomans to guard the water source of Tabuk and serve pilgrims on the Syrian Hajj route to Madinah. It was restored several times, with decorative tiles added in the seventeenth century and a major renovation in 1844, recorded in an inscription in its mosque. The two-storey fort has a courtyard, rooms and an open-air mosque on its upper level, and it now serves as a free museum. It stands in the centre of Tabuk beside the Spring of Tabuk and close to Masjid al-Tawbah, which commemorate the expedition of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ to Tabuk.
