About Red Sea Museum

The Red Sea Museum opened in December 2025 in the restored Bab al-Bunt building on the old waterfront of Historic Jeddah. For centuries this was the main gateway into the city from the sea, where pilgrims, merchants and travellers landed on their way to Makkah. More than a thousand objects across 23 halls tell the story of the Red Sea, its trade, navigation, natural life and the pilgrim journey, with Chinese porcelain, incense burners, coral, maps, manuscripts and old photographs alongside contemporary art. Entry has been free, and the museum is closed on Mondays.
