About Nasseef House

Nasseef House was built between 1872 and 1881 for Umar Nasseef Effendi, of a wealthy merchant family, on Souq al-Alawi in Historic Jeddah. It has more than a hundred rooms, carved wooden rawashin, and a wide stairway with shallow steps so that animals could carry supplies to the upper floors. King Abdulaziz stayed here when he came to Jeddah in 1925. It was long known as the House with the Tree, after the neem tree in the small square beside it, once the only tree in al-Balad. The house is now a museum of old Jeddah life within the UNESCO-listed historic district, and opening hours are mostly in the evenings.
