Muzdalifah is the open plain between Mina and Arafat where pilgrims spend the night after the Day of Arafah. Nabi Muhammad ﷺ arrived here after sunset on the Farewell Hajj, prayed Maghrib and Isha together, rested until dawn and, after the Fajr prayer, stood in remembrance and supplication before moving on to Mina. Pilgrims today do the same, sleeping under the open sky and collecting the small pebbles they will use to stone the Jamarat. The plain lies about nine kilometres east of Masjid al-Haram, and at its heart stands Masjid al-Mash'ar al-Haram.
