Thabir is the tall mountain on the northern side of Mina. Before Islam the pilgrims at Muzdalifah would wait until the sun rose over Thabir before setting off, and Nabi Muhammad ﷺ changed this practice by leaving for Mina before sunrise. Tradition also links the mountain with the ram that was sent down for Nabi Ibrahim in place of his son. Thabir overlooks the tents of Mina and is a familiar landmark for pilgrims during Hajj. It is not part of the rites themselves, but its history is worth knowing as one looks across the valley.
