About Masjid al-Bay'ah (Pledges of al-Aqabah)

In the years before the Hijrah, Nabi Muhammad ﷺ met pilgrims from Yathrib in secret at al-Aqabah, a pass at the edge of Mina. In the twelfth year of the prophethood twelve men pledged to worship Allah alone and live by His commands, and the following year more than seventy men and two women pledged to protect him as they would their own families. These two Pledges of al-Aqabah opened the way for the Hijrah to Madinah. The mosque was first built in the Abbasid period to mark the place, and its simple stone structure still stands near Jamrat al-Aqabah in Mina, restored in recent years. It is one of the few surviving early buildings in Mina and can be visited outside the Hajj season.
